Our relationships with our animal companions are powerful.  Our animals teach us unconditional love, joy and living in the present.  They help us understand our lives more fully, and they are ever willing to share their gifts with us.  Many of us feel that we are living with furry (or feathered or scaled) angels.  When the time comes to part with them, we are faced with emotions and decisions that can often seem overwhelming.  The loss of a beloved animal companion can be a challenging and heart-breaking time.  It can also be a time to honor the love you’ve shared together over the years.

Many of my clients find these sessions to be powerful reinforcements of the relationships they’ve shared with their animal companions.  We can also work to ease the inevitable stresses of this time, bringing you peace of mind as you and your animal make choices together.  Here are some of the questions we can answer together in a session:

  1. Are there any foods, sounds, physical spaces that will make her more comfortable?

  2. Does she want to explore or continue life-extending treatments?

  3. How does she view her illness?
    How does she view death?

  4. Is she ready to go?

  5. How will you know when she’s ready?

  6. Does she want to make her transition on her own, or with help?

  7. If she’d like assistance, would she like it at home, or in the vet’s office?

  8. Who would she like to be present?

  9. Does she have a concept of how she’d like to be remembered?

  10. Does she want a memorial (whether a gathering of friends, a special area in your yard, a song or an image to remind you of her, etc.)?

  11. Does she have any requests or wishes for those she’s leaving behind (her fellow animal companions, or human companions)?

  12. What lessons from you life together does she want to share with you?

  13. Is she coming back?  If so, does she know any of the particulars of her return?
