Reiki is a healing modality developed in Japan, based on the concept that there is unseen life force energy all around us, animating our bodies and our world. A Reiki practitioner uses his or her hands to direct this energy for healing, stress relief and relaxation. It is a natural, safe and effective method to support health, well-being and overall balance of the body, mind and spirit.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words: “Rei” which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and “Ki” which is "life force energy". Thus, Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy." Reiki is an intelligent energy, going to areas of the body, mind and spirit that require healing. It goes through clothing, casts and even over long distances. Reiki supports conventional healing modalities, so it is often used in hospitals and other medical facilities with people undergoing medical treatments like chemotherapy, dialysis, and physical therapy.
It is instinctual for humans to use our hands to alleviate pain. The first thing most people do when they are experiencing pain is to put their hands on the area. When a child is in pain, a mother naturally puts her hands on the area (or kisses it) to make the pain go away. Using the same touch instinct, an injured animal usually licks the area of pain. Our touch conveys love, healing and warmth. The healing inherent in the act of touching is the basis for all modalities of touch healing.
During a Reiki session, the recipient may either sit comfortably or lie down, and remains fully clothed, except for shoes. The Reiki energy comes through the practitioner, who serves as a conduit by placing his or her hands in the energy field of the recipient, and respectfully and with permission, on the recipient’s body. A recipient of Reiki may be filled with warmth, or a sense of well-being and relaxation. They may undergo some emotional release, sense things in their bodies they hadn’t sensed before, or even fall asleep! It feels so good that often, a person’s animal companions may come into the room to be near the Reiki energy (or to help with the healing).
As a Reiki practitioner, I offer energy healing sessions (both in-person and over distance) to my human and animal clients, to support their best possible outcomes and the highest good for everyone involved.
